Elinor Ostrom is here....

Madame Elinor Ostrom won them Nobel Prize Srize .. 'Economics ma kyaruh' last year ... because she ..."Challenged the conventional wisdom by demonstrating how local property can be successfully managed by local commons without any regulation by central authorities or privatization."

And now she is here in Nepal... thanks to them 'Asia Foundation' people!

Although our dailies say 'Our government and AF people' invited her... the real story is our government is busy figuring out how to drain the Rastra ko Dhukuti' , fly abroad and waste our taxpayers' money ... that they really don't have time to invite people who have made a difference to them Nepali lives kyaruh!

I think she should be awarded whatever them 'Government medal' by our President instead of that 'Prince from Persia' .. hoinuh ruh?

She will be visiting our 'great leaders' and sarkaari hakims! As far as I know, Ostrom ko research on them 'rural development' stuff says 'the community does it better rather than them government, INGOs or private-wallahs!' ...

Many years ago, she also did some re-search we-search on them police departments in Amrika rey and they found out that .... community policing in small groups ... more effective than having a 100+ police force in one place rey!

I think she should also visit our Nepal Police people and give them hand-outs on her research on them 'Police' karyakarams!

Ostrom ko story is similar to our great Sarkaari Hakims! She was born to a poor family, first one to attend college, did her PhD even though during them tyam.. women in Amrika were discriminated and thought of as only school teachers and secretaries!

If we look at our Hakim sahebs, nearly 99% of them were born poor in some remote places in Nepal. They were the first one to attend college and did well but once they joined the civil service.. it was all about making the moolah... innit?

And We have people like the 'Myagdi Wi-fi Man', 'Dr. Eye' , 'The Farmer in Khotang' and our auntie, 'The Wonder-Woman' .... no I am not thinking of some comic strip, just talking about Mr. Pun, Dr. Ruit, Mr. Rai and Mrs. Koirala ni!

Ostrom is happy to be in Nepal... them KU students are lucky to have her as the 'Commencement Speaker' ... and what about our so-called leaders and them sarkaari hakims?

All they worry about is how to get them foreign aid and instead of really funding them development projects, they will probably fund their own 'real estate projects' ni!

Hope someday our so-called leaders will see the light... hope one day they will listen to honest technocrats and not to them street hoodlums (their cadres!) and ass-kissing bureaucrats!
